Irvine has more personal trainers per capita than almost any other city in California. That's good — you have options. It's also bad — most of them are commission-driven gym staff who learned a workout template online and recycled it. This is the short list of the trainers in Irvine who actually deliver, ranked by credentials, results, third-party awards, and review depth.
Quick disclosure: Yes, I'm biased — I built #1. The other five made this list because if our Irvine roster is full, they're who I'd hand a friend's phone number to. The big-box gyms (24 Hour, LA Fitness, EoS) didn't make the cut at all — their personal-training programs are quota-driven sales channels staffed by trainers between gigs, and that's a fundamentally different product than picking a real coach.
How I ranked these
- Credentials — degree in kinesiology or exercise science beats certification-only every time
- Verified third-party awards — Best of Irvine, Business Rate California rankings, Business Hall of Fame
- Review depth — not just rating, but volume and recency on Google + Yelp
- Programming structure — written, progressive plans vs. "show up and we'll see"
- Nutrition included — because training without nutrition stalls every time
1. Train With Dave — Irvine
Why #1: The Irvine studio anchors a three-location Orange County operation I started in 2016 (Irvine, Orange, Laguna Hills). The award trail is what separates this one locally: Business Rate ranked us #10 Personal Training in all of California out of the Irvine studio in 2026, after we'd already swept Best of Irvine three years running (2022 through 2024), been inducted into the Irvine Business Hall of Fame in 2024, and taken Business Rate Best Personal Training in Irvine for both 2024 and 2025. Combined review count across the three studios is north of 1,000 five-stars on Google.
Coach quality: The hiring bar is the part most local gyms won't match. Every coach on the floor has — at minimum — a Bachelor's in Kinesiology or Exercise Science. A handful hold NSCA-CSCS credentials and several have Master's. We accept roughly 1 in 80 applicants, and the team meets weekly to work through new physiology and nutrition research instead of running the same templates we ran three years ago.
Method: Programs are built around your specific body, your joint history, your schedule, and the goal you walked in with — not a stock template tweaked at the edges. Everything (workouts, working weights, nutrition targets, recovery notes) lives in a proprietary app you and your coach both see. Corrective-exercise programming for prior injuries, post-surgical recovery, and chronic pain is built into the standard product, not an upsell.
Format: In-studio at 16510 Aston St, Irvine. Marketed as 1-on-1; runs 2-on-1 or 3-on-1 in practice (you still get a fully personal program). Online programming also available for clients outside OC.
Pricing: Effective rate runs $60–$80 per session, but the price covers the whole stack — programmed workouts, a customized nutrition plan, the app, and direct coach access between sessions. Free 45-minute consultation up front, no obligation, no pressure pitch.
Caveat: If you want a quiet, low-touch gym where nobody talks to you, this isn't it. The model is high-accountability — coaches text, follow up, and adjust week-to-week. Good for people who want results; wrong for people who want to be left alone.

2. Crown Fitness — Irvine
Small private studio, well-reviewed on Yelp's Irvine personal-trainer search for 2026. Their lead trainer Prince has consistent strong reviews from first-time-trainer clients. Solid pick if you want a tight, single-trainer relationship in a private setting.
Strength: Personalized 1-on-1 attention in a low-traffic studio. Caveat: Smaller team means limited schedule flexibility and no backup if your trainer is out.
3. Fyt Personal Training (Irvine network)
Fyt is a marketplace, not a studio — they connect you with vetted trainers who come to your home, your apartment gym, or meet you at a partner facility. Has been pulled into Yelp's "Best of" lists for personal training in Orange County for 7+ years running.
Strength: Convenience — they come to you, scheduling is flexible. Caveat: Trainer quality varies because the marketplace model means you're matched, not coached by a single accountable team. Programming consistency depends on the individual trainer you draw.
4. Martian Fitness — Irvine
Boutique personal training and nutrition coaching, frequently named in 2026 Irvine "best of" listings. Solo operator with a focus on clients who want both training and nutrition handled by the same coach.
Strength: Combined fitness + nutrition under one coach. Caveat: Single-trainer operation — limited capacity if you need flexible scheduling, and no team depth for specialty needs (post-rehab, athletic performance, etc.).
5. Jenny Chapin (OCFITSIS) — Irvine
Solo trainer specializing in weight-loss coaching for women. Strong testimonials from clients who've lost significant weight (40+ lbs reported in published reviews) over multi-month programs. Nutrition is integrated.
Strength: Clear specialty — if you're a woman in Irvine focused on long-term fat loss with a coach who's done it many times, she's a real option. Caveat: Specialty is also the limit — outside the women's-fat-loss lane, you're better served elsewhere.
6. Matthew Song, CSCS, PN — Irvine
Solo coach holding the NSCA-CSCS (the gold-standard strength and conditioning credential) plus a Precision Nutrition certification. Strong fit for clients who want explicit strength-and-conditioning programming over general fitness.
Strength: Real credentials, evidence-based programming, no fluff. Caveat: Solo coach with limited slots; if his calendar is full there's no team to fall back on.
How to choose between them
- You want maximum structure, real coaches, and a team that's been there before: Train With Dave.
- You want a solo coach with a tight private-studio relationship: Crown Fitness or Matthew Song.
- You want training to come to you: Fyt.

What to ask before you sign
- What's your education and certification? (Degree > certification only)
- How is the program written and tracked? (Written + progressive > "we'll see how you feel")
- Is nutrition included or extra? (Included is standard now)
- What does a typical 12-week trajectory look like for someone like me?
- What's your refund or trial policy if it's not a fit?
If a trainer can't answer those four questions in a free consultation, keep looking.

At minimum, a recognized certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA-CSCS). Better: a Bachelor's in Kinesiology or Exercise Science.
